Founded in 2010 by Jo Filshie Browning, FBA works with CEOs, Chief Medical Officers, physicians, senior scientists and other leaders in life sciences to give them the skills to cut through the noise.

Meet our founder

Jo Filshie Browning is one of the world’s most experienced spokesperson trainers. She’s a leading expert in the science of authority and has trained top level CEOs on how to be the spokespeople their companies need when it’s all on the line.
From investor calls to government enquiries, town halls to media interviews, top executives call on Jo and her team to prepare them to navigate high stakes public platforms when every word they say matters.
Her structured approach supports leaders to feel confident and communicate effectively and empathetically through high stress moments such as investor calls, AGMs, milestone announcements and accountability interviews.
A trained investigative journalist, former spokesperson for GlaxoSmithKline, and a communications leader for more than 25 years, Jo is one of the few experts in this space who has been on every conceivable side of the conversation.
She has trained more than 10,000 professionals in 43 countries and four continents. Her English degree from Oxford University, her diploma in public relations and post graduate diploma in science and society all underpin her work. She has lectured at University of Sydney, University of Basel, ETH, and held the position of senior lecturer at the University of Rhein Waal.
Jo is the author of the bestseller Scientifically Speaking: how to speak about your research with confidence and clarity and lives in Basel with her family.

Faculty

Catherine Minogue

Faculty

Catherine Minogue is an on-camera coach with a love of the written and spoken word. She is frequently behind the lens at FBA, and is dedicated to helping people build their confidence to be seen and heard by their audiences in service of their missions.

Prior to joining FBA in 2017, she directed new client education programmes for Metron Sustainable Services in Boulder, USA.  She brings 8 years’ experience working in communications and operations in Takeda Pharmaceuticals’  Drug Discovery Research Organization, where she served as Operations Manager and Special Assistant to the Chief Scientific Officer. Before her time at Takeda, Catherine was Associate Director of Friends of the Arts at Davidson College, USA, managing special events for the College’s fundraising group for the fine arts. 

Catherine graduated from Davidson College cum laude with a degree in Economics and a minor in Mathematics. She is also a performing singer-songwriter.

Terri Creeden

Faculty

Terri Creeden is an executive coach, trainer and facilitator with clients in Asia, Europe and the U.S. She provides leadership trainings and transformational coaching to senior leaders and top executives.

She brings to her work, 10 years of experience in the international pharmaceutical industry. Prior to this, she worked in clinical genetics managing the care of families with genetic conditions followed by a director role for one of the largest non-profit organizations in the U.S.

Terri has a background in the biological sciences and holds a Masters degree in Human Genetics as well as a Masters degree in Public Health. She is a certified ontological and transformational coach through Newfield Network Europe and a professional certified coach with the International Coaching Federation.

She is a certified facilitator in the research of Dr. Brené Brown and also holds a certification in the Leadership Circle Profile Assessment.

Terri is originally from the U.S. and has lived and worked in Shanghai, China and in Basel, Switzerland, where she is currently based.

Ruth Slater

Faculty

Ruth is an experienced healthcare communicator, built up through a career spanning academic and clinical research, biotechnology R&D, and healthcare communications roles with biopharmaceutical teams, patient organisations and the NHS.

Ruth trains teams and individuals to communicate complex scientific information through clear and impactful messaging; ensuring that they communicate in a way that is both meaningful and meets the information needs of the intended audience. She has been a trainer and coach for crucial regulatory presentations and meetings, including FDA and EMA CHMP type C meetings, advisory sessions and oral explanations. During her time in biotechnology R&D she was also the communications liaison between manufacturing and regulatory teams, and participating in a number of regulatory submissions, audits and assessments. 

Ruth’s scientific background is in the field of Biomolecular Sciences, with clinical research specialties in neurobiology, oncology and endocrinology. She has held research positions at The Babraham Institute, Department of NeuroScience, Cambridge University and the DKFZ (German Cancer Institute), Heidelberg University, Germany.

Peter Sandbach

Faculty

Peter Sandbach is a seasoned communicator with a passion for helping people to get their message across clearly.

Peter was previously Head of Global Communication Training at the healthcare company, Roche. There he was responsible for training senior executives and others in the company on presenting, storytelling and talking with the media. He also worked with many Roche scientists helping them to get their message across to different audiences.

Before joining Roche in 2007, Peter was Head of Communication Services at Syngenta, the world’s leading agrochemicals and seeds company, where he directed all aspects of the company’s strategic communication materials. Before moving to Switzerland in 2001, Peter led biotechnology communications in the UK for Novartis, where he spearheaded the creation of the first UK industry communication initiative on genetically modified crops.

Peter has an honours degree in biology from the University of Durham (UK).

Administration

Euan Turner

Senior Trainer and Consultant

Euan is Managing Director of the FBA Consulting business. With a background in anatomy, Euan has spent the last 25 years working in a variety of communications roles, delivering a wide range of successful programmes at global, regional and local level for clients from the pharmaceutical industry and national and regional governments.

He has extensive experience working on Janssen projects, including working on UPTRAVI since the pre-launch phase, supporting the OPSUMIT and VELETRI teams, and developing the PH TA Exchange Expo best practice sharing programme

Euan believes in harnessing the power of storytelling and emotional engagement to deliver communications that drive change, whatever the audience and whatever the medium.

Juliet Morley

Training Operations and Consultant

Juliet has more than 25 years of consultancy experience developing and implementing global and UK healthcare communications programmes for numerous pharmaceutical companies and charities.

She is passionate about understanding stakeholder insights to make messages for creative campaigns that have a real impact on their end audiences, ensuring that global messaging ‘crosses borders’ and works for local affiliates. 

Rachel Elend

Head of User Experience and Online Learning

Rachel has been in healthcare for more than 25 years, rolling up her sleeves in many areas from a Healthcare practitioner to elite sports and high-performance pharmaceuticals. She has moved from being right there with patients to sharing insights in the C-suite. Initially a communicator, Rachel worked most recently for Novartis as the Head of Learning Excellence and Operations.

Rachel has a passion to understand how things and people work. With her breadth of experience she loves to drive practical, value-packed strategies that can be implemented in the real world creating value for anyone who wants to up skill and continue to learn.

Manisha Patel

Head of Finance and Operations

Manisha has 20+ years of expertise spanning business ownership with a successful exit, management consulting, advising large corporate companies, as well as nurturing start-ups and charities. She is skilled in strategy, planning and financial management.

Manisha sits on Board/Executive leadership teams, leveraging expertise in navigating business transformations, and hands-on experience consulting organisations on their target operating model. She is passionate about cultivating strong relationships and creating a tangible, positive impact.

Her previous roles were in a myriad of different industries such as Banking, Childcare, Education, Property and Construction. She thrives on bringing her skillset into the Healthcare Communication arena.
